While entrepreneurs were able to start using the new desktop on the state portal in December last year, the desktop for private persons has now also been updated. When logging into the portal eesti.ee, the user is presented by default with a desktop, where the most searched services are grouped by topic: documents, health, underage children, vehicles, real estate, etc. In the documents section, you can get a quick overview of identity documents and driving licences and their expiry dates. In the health section, there are services from prescriptions and dental care benefits to ordering an European Health Insurance Card. From the desktop, you can also conveniently download your document photo and go to the population register to change your address. There is also the option to save your most used services and information articles as quick links to your desktop.
‘The new desktop of eesti.ee will help us to cope with the information overload around us, and we plan to further improve it,’ said Kaisi Udumäe, Head of the state portal. ‘The aim is also to add information such as vehicle insurance, pensions, and education, as well as new event services, but also to personalise the desktop so that it is based on a specific user profile. For example, it makes no sense to show a 19-year-old young person information about retirement, while a pensioner may need information about prosthesis benefits,’ explains Udumäe.
The new desktop was developed based on user feedback and research to improve the findability of services. ‘Six months ago, user feedback that said ‘I couldn’t find my prescriptions’ was common. This is because people often searched for their personal data within information articles and also in the logged-out view,’ Udumäe said. Now you can easily find references to services within the information articles and a logged in user can immediately see a reference to their personal data within the corresponding information article – for example, the information on incapacity for work, i.e. the certificate for sick leave contains a query about the incapacity for work benefit of a specific person.
Also coming soon is the new notification system of eesti.ee, Notify, which will inform users promptly when there is a disruption in a service due to maintenance or technical failures.
The new desktop was designed by Trinidad Wiseman OÜ and the development partner was Srini OÜ. The works cost around €60,000 and have been financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget.
In total, the eesti.ee environment receives 7 million annual visits, offers 102 different services, and contains 600 information articles that direct people to the right authority or service.
