The online voting began at 9 a.m. this morning and will remain open around the clock until 8 p.m. on Saturday, 4 March. In order to participate in online voting, the voter application must be downloaded from www.valimised.ee. The application will be published on the home page immediately before the beginning of the voting. A computer with internet connection and an ID card with an ID card reader or a Mobile ID and the PIN codes are also required.
Smart ID cannot be used for online voting. It is also not possible to vote via smart devices. However, voters can use their smartphones to check within 30 minutes after voting whether their online vote has reached the central server of the elections and properly expresses their will. For this purpose, the ‘EH kontrollrakendus’ app must be downloaded from Google Play or App Store. Everyone should update the app for the newest version.
If a voter feels that the security of their vote may not have been ensured at the time of online voting, they may change their choice by voting online again until Saturday evening. If the voter has participated in the elections both electronically and by paper ballot, only the choice made at the polling station will be counted. The voter may still change their vote by voting by paper ballot in the polling station on the election day on Sunday.
In the election week, from Monday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., voters can vote in the centres of the rural municipalities, towns, and districts of Tallinn. There is at least one polling station open in all centres where anyone may vote, irrespective of their registered place of residence. Further information about polling stations can be found from the map application website at jsk.valimised.ee.
From Friday to Sunday of the election week, all 405 polling stations over Estonia will be open. On these days, voters can vote in any polling stations of the electoral district of their residence.
If it is difficult for a voter to visit a polling station due to their health condition or another valid reason, they may apply for voting from home. For this, an application must be submitted to the local municipality. This can already be done in writing now. Verbal application can be made by calling the phone number specified by the local municipality on Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
In Riigikogu elections, Estonia is divided into twelve districts. Nine parties and ten independent candidates run in the elections – 968 candidates, in total.
